What do Category 6 network cables mean?

Category: Industry News

Release date: 2025-08-14

Summary: Supports 1Gbps high-speed transmission with bandwidth up to 250MHz, ideal for high-traffic scenarios such as Gigabit networks, 4K/8K video streaming, and large-scale gaming.

Category 6 (CAT6) cable is a network cabling standard—simply put:

Transmission Rate: Supports high-speed 1Gbps transfer with a bandwidth of up to 250MHz, ideal for high-traffic scenarios such as Gigabit networks, 4K/8K video streaming, and large-scale gaming.

Structural features:
The wire core is thicker (approximately 0.57mm in diameter), resulting in lower transmission loss.
Inside, a cross-shaped skeleton separates the four pairs of twisted wires, reducing crosstalk (signal interference) and enhancing stability.
Applicable scenarios: Home renovations, corporate LANs, and other environments requiring a stable, high-speed network over the long term—particularly ideal for in-wall cabling (which offers extended durability).
Compared to Category 5 / Category 5e: faster speeds (100 Mbps for Category 5 / Category 5e), stronger resistance to interference, and ideal for future network upgrades.

Please note: Category 6 network cables must be used with compatible Category 6 connectors, switches, and other equipment to achieve their full performance. When installing the cables, avoid excessive bending or running them over excessively long distances (recommended maximum of 100 meters).
